John Wesley Shipp docks in Llanview

One Life to Live fans may want to be a little leery of the latest character docking in Llanview. John Wesley Shipp joins OLTL this week in the role of Eddie Ford, a not-so-model dad. Shipp has appeared on four other daytime drama series and is known in primetime for his work on Dawson's Creek.

Television veteran John Wesley Shipp joins the cast of One Life to Live this week in the role of Eddie Ford, the father of James and Ford. Don't expect to see a happy reunion between the Ford men when Eddie "sweeps" into town. Eddie is said to be a first-class troublemaker.

Shipp has a long established and award-winning history in daytime television. Shipp began his daytime career on Guiding Light, where he played the role of Kelly Nelson from 1980 to 1984. His two-year run As the World Turns as Doug Cummings earned Shipp an Outstanding Supporting Actor win at the Daytime Emmys in 1986. The following year, the actor picked up another Emmy -- in the Outstanding Guest Performer -- for his work as Martin Ellis on Santa Barbara. Shipp also made an appearance as the abusive Carter Jones on All My Children in 1992.

Believe it or not, this will not be Shipp's first appearance in Llanview. In 1989, Shipp appeared briefly as Blanchard Lovelace.

Shipp has not confined his work to the daytime hours. Primetime viewers know the actor as good guy and model dad Mitch Leery on the primetime soap Dawson's Creek.

"No one in their own heart is irredeemably evil," Shipp told Soap Opera Digest of his new daytime alter ego. "So I've just tried to make him outrageously, darkly funny."

Shipp debuts on November 5.
